17 Days Exploring Western Borneo (Danau Sentarum and Betung Karihun National Park)

17 Days 16 nights is an adventure trip starts from Pontianak and ends in Pontianak. It offers experience Exploring Borneo, to observe and knowing new places beyond imagination. The tour start from Pontianak ends in Pontianak. It explore Danau Sentarum, and Betung Karihun National Park. It explores the most rugged National Park Indonesia. Day 1 Pontianak (D)

1. Day 1 Pontianak (D) Preferably arrive in the morning to the joining hotel, as today in the afternoon are planned activities visiting Grand Mosque Jami’,Qadariah Palace, Equator Monument, and the Oldest Buddhist Temple remind right on the bank of the Kapuas River. 2. Day 2 Pontianak– Sintang (BLD) Departing for Sintang at 9.00 am by executive bus the trip goes through rubber, palm oil plantation. The trips present green scenery through the plantations. The 3. Day 3 Sintang – Mountain Kelam (BLD) After breakfast at about 8.00am the trips heading Mountain Kelam, the giant rock of Borneo. If weather permitting, the summit of Bukit Kelam presents beautiful view of the Kapuas River and Melawi valleys. It takes 7 to 8 hours. Afternoon is the right time to enjoy greenness of Baning Park, to experience the culture of river live of Sintang.

4. Day 4 -8 Sintang – Putusibau boat-ride (BLD) It is 3 hours speedboat trip from Sintang to Selimbau. The trip overnights in Selimbau and the next day heading to Leboyan Village (a village right in the middle of the Sentarum Lake. This trip offers beauty of scenery of wet land and sometime seeing a lot bird and other animals. 5. Day 5 Leboyan – Bukit Tekenang overnight (BLD) At about 9.00am, after breakfast the group ready to leave for Bukit Tkenang, it a small hill right in the middle of the Sentarum lake, where the areas of lake is visible from the top of it. On the hill, there is a shelter from where the scenery of the lake is very visible. 6. Day 6 Bukit Terkenang-Semangit, Honey Village (BLD) Boat riding again from the jetty right on the feet of the Bukit Tekenang to the Honey Village is started after breakfast. Enjoying scenery of the local people conducting daily live as angler in the lake. During the floating season is the right time to visit this place. August – February is the best time. The villagers are living on floating-house, or tall houses between 5-6 meters above the ground. Such house intended to anticipate them floating season, that many time submerge all the areas. 7. Day 7 Semangit, Honey Village – Lanjak Village (BLD) It is the farewell to the Sentarum Lake heading to the Native Village of Dayak Iban Tribe in Lanjak. The last but not least the trip crossing Semangit – Lanjak is the most dangerous are for that lake is very large and raft. Local people would not serve any request to cross between Semangit and Lanjak in the afternoon for the waves in the lake was quite large. Throughout the history of the legend that they always remember is none of them who sank in the lake never the human remain recalled. That is why they do not serve transportation to cross in the afternoon or evening. Lanjak is the closest village to the Indonesia-Malaysia border. Local people call it the village boundary. Most of the supply of staple food here are from Malaysia. However, they travel more often to Putusibau nearest City, Capital of Kapuas Hulu Regency. 8. Day 8 Lanjak – Putusibau Bus Ride (BLD). Today is the time to experience bus-ride in the interior of Borneo Island Lanjak-Putusibau. The 90km sometime takes 7 hours. It depends on the road condition. It is really new experience people. 9. Day 9 Putusibau Nanga Bungan (BLD) Again boat ride from Putusibau for Nanga Bungan. It presents scenery of the Dayak Kedamin all along the Kedamin country. The native of Kedamin, Mataluna are waving hand and saying hallo to any foreign who visits their country. It takes 7 to 8 hours. However, stunned by beauty of the nature makes viewer feels in a dreaming land. Long houses the homes of indigenous that live in communal bring travellers to dream of ancestors’ life style. Amazing, women with stretched earlobes fully tattooed something like body art completed journey throughout a place of head-hunter. Nerve–still is required for the rapids are completely wild. Stay overnight in Nanga Bungan village to experience daily life of the Punan People. 10. Day 10 Nanga Bungan – Tanjung Lokang (BLD) River boating adventure by motorized boat from Putusibau to Nanga Bungan with the Punan is the real experience of the native, Punan People. It takes 7 to 8 hours. Nerve–still is required for the rapids are completely wild. However, stunned by beauty of the nature makes viewer feels in a dreaming land. Long houses the homes of indigenous that live in communal bring travellers to dream of ancestors’ life style. Nature blesses the villagers. It gives highly priced nest of swallow birds. 11. Day 11 Tanjung Lokang – Diang Kaung, Jungle Trekking (BLD) Jungle trekking Tanjung Lokang to Diang Kaung, it is the beginning of the bitten jungle walking. It normal to take jungle walk for 6 – 7 hours through the most rugged jungle of the world. Tanjung Lokang the last village to enter the hearth of Borneo Island. The trip is stopped and set up jungle camping under the Bobok Cave. One day explores and experiences jungle life fishing in the fresh water or joining the local guide collecting eatable young leaves or mushroom like those the sub ethnic called Dayak Punan. Punan community, they are the most remote and the most minority people of Borneo Island. They mostly, remain nomadic and hunter. This sub ethnic a few of the live in the remote of East Malaysia, in Mendalam Village, those in the remote area of Borneo Indonesia remain in Tanjung Lokang, interior of West Kalimantan and Tiong Ohang interior of East Kalimantan. 12. Day 12 Jungle Trekking Diang Kaung-Gua Bohok (BLD) Jungle trekking starts from Gua Bobok to Brakan River. In the late afternoon the trekking, back to the camp and in the evening following the Punan doing traditional hunting. In the 7-8 hours a day, spend time in a very basic way of life, as well in the very basic accommodation. ‘Yes, it is, everything is very basic, under the jungle camp.’ All along those days is the best time for photo hunting. If that day is the lucky day hornbill, screaming proboscis, ‘cringing’ sound of insect and biodeversity of tropical forest will be a part of the jungle walking experience. 13. Day 13 Gua Bobok – Lungun Photo Hunting (BLD) The unforgettable exotic of the culture used to be practiced by the Punan People stayed in the caves where there of their uncivilized and nomadic culture. Caves were home of the people before they invented their longhouse. 14. Day 14 Gua Bobok – Tanjung Lokang (BLD) The unforgettable exotic of the rain forest is now almost end. It is the last time for saying Good Bye to the Betung Karihun National Park. Some of the hard work is now left. The Punan People guide us back to their village before the next day heading to Putusibau. 15. Day 15 Tanjung Lokang Putusibau (BLD) The boar riding is giving unforgettable experience down the Bungan and Kapuas River. Start at about 9 in the morning and will arrive in the Kedamin Longhouse at late afternoon. It is the last cultural Tour to stay overnight with local people, the long-house. 16. Day 16 Putusibau Pontianak (BLD) It the time to say ‘Good bye interior of Borneo’, long bus-ride that takes 18-20 hours or fly for only 100 minutes. 17. Day 17 Arrive in Pontianak (BL) Tour ends upon the arrival in the chosen hotel in Pontianak. (free program).

The Fact: What is it like? It is a semi-adventure tour. Fitness of body is preferable but not a must. Sleeping bag is required, sometimes is wet.
